Striving for Excellence - Influencing Change
24 and 25 November 2010 @ the Radisson Edwardian, Heathrow

The new emphasis on police reform, coupled with government plans to create new accountability structures, will mean that contributions from police professionals – both as speakers and as delegates - are more important than ever before.

But with challenges come opportunities, and the APA Annual Conference 2010 will encourage delegates to participate in a wide range of innovative and thought-provoking discussions which will shape the future of policing to the vision of police authorities.

Delegates will have the opportunity to make the most of productive relationships with their policing partners, and debate a wide range of issues that will make a real difference to the policing communities receive.

Once again an influential audience of key policing leaders, and policy experts will be considering, debating and presenting on latest policing issues.

Shadow Home Secretary, Ed Balls, has been confirmed as a speaker for this year’s APA Conference at the Radisson Edwardian Hotel, Heathrow.

The opening conference session will focus on Leadership and Change into the future.  It will provide a unique opportunity to discuss how the local voice continues to shape the policing landscape in a fast flowing time of change.

The conference will also cover a wide range of areas including sessions on:

  • Police Reform, the national picture
  • Accountability of the police
  • Value for money
  • 2012 Olympics and the impact on local policing

In addition to the main conference sessions, delegates will have the opportunity to take part in a series of seminars and discussions on key policing issues.

Delegates will also be able to view showcases of police authority good practice before the winners of the APA Recognising Excellence Awards 2010 are announced during the conference dinner.

Too often police authorities go without proper recognition for their work improving policing on behalf of local communities. This changed in 2008 with the launch of the inaugural APA Recognising Excellence Awards.

Now in their third year, these awards highlight the unique contribution of police authorities in policing. The 2010 winners will be announced at the conference dinner on 24 November. Click on the 'Awards' tab for further information and details of how to nominate.
